Cleft of the Rock

Bright Angel Trail - Grand Canyon National Park, Az

We hiked down Bright Angel Trail easily but struggled coming back up. It was at times more than I could bear as my legs burned and my breath was coming up short. By the time we got to the top, the sun was beginning to set, I was out of breath and sort of heaving. Then 3 ladies, aged 83 yrs old, blew past us and I was shamed into standing up straight. Acting like I was not dying.
When I finally looked up, we saw the sun glowing through this cleft and I thought once again about Moses and him asking to see Gods glory. God replied, I will do this very thing for have asked. YOU have found favor in My sight and I know you by name. Then God hid Moses in the cleft of the rock and Moses saw the Glory of God. In the seeing, Moses was forever changed. Altered. The Israelites on the other hand were too afraid to encounter God. They were not ready to be changed in the meeting.
I was not always ready to see God either. But when I did and now, when I do, I sometimes break down in tears. I am sometimes overwhelmed with the beauty and deep love that I experience. I never look at a cloud passing me by without thinking about Gods glory. I never look at fire without also thinking about Gods righteous judgement. Being willing to encounter God, is being ready and open to change.

"My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest."
Exodus 33:14
